Governance
THE EDGE is administered by the Aotea Centre Board of Management as the statutory authority empowered under the Auckland Aotea Centre Empowering Act 1985.
The primary responsibilities of the Board are to control, manage, maintain and promote THE EDGE and provide cultural activities, performing arts and entertainment events and a state-of-the-art convention centre.
By formal agreement between the Board and Auckland City Council, consistent with the terms of the Amendment Act 2001, the Board undertakes these responsibilities in respect of Aotea Centre, The Civic, Auckland Town Hall and Aotea Square.
Auckland City Council primarily funds the Board's operations; however, Waitakere City and Manukau City Council are also required by government legislation to provide a small level of annual funding.
Auckland City Council owns Aotea Centre and the land it occupies, in trust, for the benefit of the residents of the wider Auckland region. The Civic, Auckland Town Hall and Aotea Square are owned freehold by Auckland City Council.
Approximately 24% of THE EDGE annual turnover – the full amount of the grant from Auckland City Council – is used by THE EDGE to meet Auckland City Council's Arts Agenda policy requirements.
The Board reports to Auckland City Council’s Finance and Strategy Committee, publishes an Annual Report, and formally agrees on an annual Statement of Intent.
